2nd Annual Day of the Dead Event

On October 21, 2023 under a brisk and sunny fall day Taylor Street Farms (TSF) hosted its second Day of the Dead event along with our partner, National Public Housing Museum (NPHM). This Fall gathering for farmers and friends allowed participants to think about people they love and share a beautiful day together.

Special thanks to Maria Baseleon who spent hours on graphic design and communications, your expertise was so appreciated.  Sally Freeman for your knowledge of TSF members and pulling together volunteers.  Laurel Foglia for your wise guidance and review of copy.  Joan Bieler for publicity and community outreach.  Special thanks to our partners at NPHM, primarily Mark Jaeschke and Tiff Beatty, we look forward to future collaboration.

Participants looked to the future by planting garlic for harvesting next year. NPHM helpers planted garlic for their community activities and TSF helpers planted in their own and in the donation beds. There were fun activities such as coloring, face painting, and a flower activity — kids used decorated wooden cut-out faces with markers to try Day of the Dead designs; participants getting their faces painted by Sierra Adams, Artist, who used traditional and new designs for images and a flower activity with Mayra Palafox, museum educator.

Delicious tamales, yummy paletas and refreshing beverages were available for all to enjoy.

THANK YOU – to all our volunteers who came with positive energy and bright smiles!
