Emma and mom Amanda

Today’s post is a very special one. Emma is one of our smallest gardeners but she is already very knowledgeable and loves to help with our food pantry harvests.

My name is Emma and I am almost 4 years old.

The garden has many kinds of fruits and vegetables. We have had a plot for two years.

In our plot this year we grew: yellow tomatoes, red tomatoes, lettuce (buttercrunch, purple lettuce, arugula, spinach), zucchini, zinnias, peas, edamame, purple green beans (if you cook them they turn green), celery, potatoes, and beets.

Around the outside of the garden is mint, huckleberries, raspberries, strawberries and grapes.

We found a cocoon this year but it hasn’t hatched yet. The monarch butterflies like to eat the milkweed. The Japanese beetles like to eat our plants.

My favorite thing about our garden is eating edamame (not raw!).
