Spring, see you soon!

2016-02-21T17:42:02-06:00

On a cold day in February, the farm rests under a fresh blanket of fallen snow. Despite a mild winter here in Chicago, we are all ready for the snow to melt. We are all forced to spend a few more months dreaming of fresh tomato slices, crunchy carrots and spicy peppers. But we are not hibernating here at Taylor Street Farms! Our 2015 gardeners have filled out their applications

A Bountiful Harvest

2015-07-27T14:55:08-05:00

A few times per month, farmers volunteer to harvest crops from our designated donation beds. All of the produce is washed, bagged and prepped for donation at our designated food pantry partner. Here are a few photos of the bountiful harvest from Saturday, July 25.     Our volunteers and the amazing amount of food to be donated   Monarch enjoying the milkweed as we work

Is It Garden Planning Time Yet?

2015-02-14T20:13:13-06:00

The days have gotten a bit longer, and the snow deeper. I've helped Taylor Street Farms write up a new application. I've consumed a lot of hot tea. I've moved Bill's new bocce ball set (his Christmas gift from me) a couple of times. I. Am. READY. For spring! Alas, spring is not yet ready for me. Or anyone in the Chicago area. And, frankly, I suspect it won't be

Harvest Party

2015-01-11T01:02:56-06:00

Cold and rain did not deter the gardeners of Taylor Street Farms from celebrating another successful growing season. We donned rain boots and parkas and danced along to great music from Chicago-based band The Custodians. Our gardeners showed off their culinary and gardening talents. Veronika harvested fresh herbs from her plot and prepared fresh olive oil flatbreads onsite. Our smallest gardeners enjoyed face painting and games like a popcorn relay

Please email taylorstreetfarms@gmail.com with the committees you’d like to be involved. This year, we hope to offer lots of opportunities for field trips to learn about beekeeping, chicken coops, sustainable living
