2015 Medicinal Garden Walk Flyer

On Friday, July 17th, members of TSF have been invited to view the medicinal garden at UIC. The university says the walk is “to celebrate the first and only urban medicinal plant garden in the city of Chicago.” There will be guided tours from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, so there’s a wealth of knowledge to be shared.

Furthermore, the garden walk will feature a lecture from Dr. Cassandra L. Quave on medicinal plants and their possibilities for antibiotics. From the invitational email:

In her keynote lecture, Dr. Quave will share with us how her lab group has discovered new leads for antibiotic adjuvants, from field research documenting the traditional use of these plants in topical therapeutics for skin infections to the laboratory analyses that have revealed their unique mechanisms of action against drug resistant bacteria, like MRSA.

You can learn more about the garden by visiting UIC pharmcy school’s website on the garden. To attend, email Skylar Carlson (scarls21 at uic dot edu) a request for an RSVP. Our own steering committee member Sally will be in attendance as well.
